I've been staying in a dorm room after getting kicked out of the place I was staying under some questionable motives of the person who owns the place. I've spent a fair amount of time alone which has led me to this: my recounting of how this musical project came to be.
In high school, I played in countless bands. Eventually, I started to record very harsh noise under the name Cachexia, which according to dictionary.com, means "Weight loss, wasting of muscle, loss of appetite, and general debility that can occur during a chronic disease. [Late Latin, from Greek kakhexi : kako-, caco- + hexis, condition (from ekhein, to have; segh- in Indo-European roots).]" After quitting high school in late 2001, I moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where, after awhile, Cachexia became myself and a fellow named Andrew Pruett. We played an abrasive form of industrial noise consisting of oddly-tuned distorted guitar, very simple drum machine loops, and hoarse screaming.
That project ended in the summer of 2003, and starting in 2004, I began to record what would become The Dream, a collection of eclectic songs and improvised pieces inspired by early American frontier culture, boredom at work, stimulant use, sleep paralysis, hot and humid and cold and snowy Pennsylvania days, and a series of odd dreams I had. This was finished in early 2005, around the time I toured with a few people as Narwhal, driving all the way from Pittsburgh to the Pacific Northwest, playing shows at coffeeshops and peoples' houses and apartments.
I decided to move to Portland, Oregon while traveling, and returned to Pittsburgh for a few months to tidy things up, during which time I recorded The Trembling, which is more electronic than The Dream and deals more with my feelings about moving across a continent than anything else. After moving to Portland, I became part of Victory & the Lads, playing psychedelic, experimental rock. Cachexia had been set aside for a time, but recently I've been working on some new pieces, which are more ambient than anything I've recorded before.

about/news, music, lyrics, links
(c) 2001 - 2006 Benjamin Greene
